Bales of dagga found on PE freeway

SAPS

Port Elizabeth police recovered three huge bales of dagga on the N2 freeway early on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said members were on patrol at about 05:15 when they found the bales, each weighing 60 kilograms, lying in the road.

She said it’s believed to have fallen off a moving vehicle.

Meanwhile, in a further development police also confiscated another six large bales of dagga found abandoned in Markman Township a short while later.

Naidu said a security officer on his way to work alerted police after the bales wrapped in tape lying next to a truck and a VW Caddy parked on the corner of Chevrolet and Buick Streets.

“He stopped and enquired from the (truck) driver who informed him that they have a breakdown and were waiting for the mechanic. Five other males were standing with the driver,” she said.

When police arrived, the men were gone but the bales of dagga were still there.

Naidu said police believe the bales of dagga belonged to the same suspects.
