A resident from Sedgefield who allegedly operated a fake holiday rental scam in the Garden Route has been denied bail in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court in George on Thursday.
The 32-year-old suspect, Marianne Roux, made her first court appearance on the 21st of June after she was arrested at her home on charges of theft.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says it is alleged that Roux acted as a travel agent who conned holidaymakers and accommodation establishments out of thousands of rand.
He says Roux, who ran her "business" on Facebook, defrauded people by asking them for deposits which she would then pocket.
Thirteen of her alleged victims have already come forward with some from as far as Kempton Park, Belville, Lephalale and Cape Town.
Bail was denied as Roux is considered to be a flight risk.
The case was postponed to the 22nd of August.
