Bail application of Blue Bulls Junior postponed yet again

The bail application of a Blue Bulls rugby player has been provisionally postponed to Tuesday.

The 19-year-old facing two counts of rape and robbery of the victim's cellphone appeared before the New Brighton Court in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

The old Grey High School pupil was arrested on the 28th of December last year and has been in custody since.

The alleged incident took place at a secluded bush area in KwaMagxaki after a night out.

He indicated last week, through his attorney, that he would plead not guilty to all the charges against him.

His defence counsel submitted an application be furnished with the investigating officer's notes and a medical report given in as evidence to court last week.

The medical report, done at Dora Nginza Hospital hours after the alleged rape, confirmed that the 18-year-old woman had been penetrated in both her vagina and anus.

According to the report, the victim was a virgin before the alleged incident and also had bruises on her breasts and upper thigh.

His legal attorney, Danie Gouws, said the defence needed Captain Michael Shanigan's notes and the medical report to proceed with its cross-examination

Gouws also said they would take the report to a professional for assessment stating that a forensic nurse does not have the necessary qualifications to write a J88 report.

Magistrate Una Rhodes granted the application.
