Eskom says severe weather conditions have left between 40 000 and 50 000 customers in the former Transkei areas without electricity.
Spokesperson, Ntosh Mafumbata, says the most affected areas are Matatiele, Mt Free, Port St Johns, Libode, Willowvale, Qunu, Flagstaff, Lusikisiki and Cofimvaba.
She says Eskom technicians are working hard to restore the power supply in those areas but the major challenge is that many are not easily accessible due to the bad weather.
Mafumbata says helicopters are on standby to assist.
She says customers are reminded to treat all electricity appliances as live as it will come back without warning.
