Fifty-three premature babies were evacuated from the Dora Nginza hospital in Port Elizabeth, after a fire broke out in their ward on Friday.
Eastern Cape health spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo says the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
He says all the babies, including their mothers, are safe, and the hospital will continue to provide care for them.
Kupelo says the municipality, electricians and firefighters are investigating the incident.
