The newly elected multi-party council convened for its first full sitting at Port Elizabeth City Hall on Wednesday morning.
Nelson Mandela Bay's new Mayor Athol Trollip unveiled the DA-led council's priorities for its first 100 days in office.
He said the broad vision of the council was to change the face of Nelson Mandela Bay by stopping corruption, providing better services and growing jobs and the economy of the Metro.
Trollip said council's strategy and vision was to ensure that Nelson Mandela Bay becomes a world-class city, positioned to make the most of its citizens, its location, its capabilities and its offerings.
Proceedings were conducted in an orderly manner under the new speaker, Jonathan Lawack, also of the DA.Danny Jordaan, who is now leading the ANC in the opposition benches on council, was not present - citing illness.
Disgruntled members of Cope in the Metro protested outside the PE City Hall ahead of the start of the council meeting. Cope only has one seat on the 120-member council.
Siyasanga Sijadu was at the top of Cope's candidate's list, however party spokesperson Thembelani Kondile says they want to see their seat occupied by their regional chairman Khwezi Ntshanyana.
