The assault charge against a Gqeberha man who was once hailed as the city's 'perlemoen kingpin', has been withdrawn.
Thirty-eight-year-old Julian Brown was arrested in January after a video of the alleged assault went viral on WhatsApp.
During a scheduled court appearance at the St. Albans court on Wednesday it came to light that the charge had been withdrawn.
Brown's attorney, Danie Gouws, said the matter has been successfully mediated.
"Its obviously confidential at this stage. They reached an agreement and the complainant didn't wish to proceed with the matter after the mediation and the matter was withdrawn against Mr Brown," he said.
Brown was acquitted of all perlemoen and racketeering charges by a full bench of three judges, after appealing against his sentence and conviction of 18 years which was handed down in the Gqeberha High Court in 2019.
Before his arrest on the recent assault charge, he had no clashes with the law.
