The bail proceedings for two of the three men accused of killing Vicki Terblanche finally got underway in the PE Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Vicki's 55-year-old estranged husband Arnold and her 32-year-old boyfriend Reinhardt Leach are applying for bail while a third accused, Dylan Cullis, previously abandoned his bid for bail.
The public gallery was packed with supporters for all the accused, including Leach's parents and Terblanche's 26-year-old girlfriend.
The affidavit for Arnold Terblanche, who is now represented by well-known Advocate Francois van Zyl, was read out in court where he stated that he could afford to pay bail of up to R100 000.
Van Zyl was last week instructed by Danie Gouws attorneys to attend to bail application on behalf of Terblanche who is accused number three.
In the affidavit he spoke about why he was divorcing Vicki, stating that she was addicted to narcotics and had been in several rehab facilities.
Arnold, who has a house in St Francis Bay worth R6.3 million, and a home in Mill Park worth R4 million, earns a salary of R65 000 a month.
The affidavit further stated that he had two children, a 33-year-old daughter from a previous relationship as well as a 12-year-old son with Vicki.
According to his version, he was out of town with his girlfriend on a trip to Gauteng when he received a call from Leach on the 20th of October.
Leach allegedly informed him that he had yet another verbal and physical altercation with Vicki after he found her in their son's bed with another man.
He then later informed Arnold that Vicki had left the house and had not yet returned.
The domestic worker then later also called Arnold, and informed him that Vicki's house was a mess and the child's bedding was missing.
According to the State's timeline, Vicki was killed on or around the 18th of October this year and was reported missing by Leach three days later.
Leach and Cullis were arrested on the 23rd of October, the same day that Vicki's body was found buried in a shallow grave at Greenbushes.
Leach told the court in his affidavit that he could afford bail of R10 000 and would live with his father in Lorraine if granted bail.
His affidavit was read into the record by his attorney, Theuns Roelofse.
The bail application will continue on Monday and counsel for Leach, and Terblanche has indicated that both men intend to plead not guilty.
