Anton Kolesky murder: Son's bail application postponed

The bail application of a Gqeberha man who has been charged with the murder of his father was postponed in the city's Magistrates Court on Monday.

The state alleges that 30-year-old Juan Kolesky is behind the murder of his father, Anton, at the family's Rowallan Park residence in August 2020.

Anton, who was 50 years old at the time, was shot and killed inside his house in Rademeyer Street and died at the scene.

During Kolesky's court appearance on Monday, State Advocate Liezel Landman told the court that his formal bail application could not proceed due to the absence of his attorney, Paul Roelofse.

Landman requested a postponement at 11:45 and told the court that she had not had any contact with Roelofse.

When Magistrate Thobile Bara asked Kolesky when last he had contact with Roelofse, he told the court he had last spoken to him on Friday.

Kolesky told the court he had "no idea" where Roelofse was, and added that he would like to proceed with his formal bail application.

His arrest, nearly four years after the murder had taken place, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Kolesky was arrested in June while in police custody on an unrelated charge of house robbery.

The house robbery was allegedly committed at a smallholding in Greenbushes on 17 June.

On this charge, he is the only accused.

It is understood that cell phone evidence, which allegedly includes messages in which he planned to have his father murdered, linked the accused to Anton's death.

Kolesky's co-accused in the murder case are Dellon Makoppa, 37, Kurt Bosman, 30, and Bernard Kopper, 33.

Bara postponed Kolesky's formal bail application to Monday.
