A Mossel Bay resident has been arrested as part of an international investigation conducted in the Western Cape into the producers, consumers and distributors of child pornography.
Police officers attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit arrested the 25-year-old man at his house in Da Nova on Friday afternoon.
He is the fourth suspected sex offender to be arrested in the province in joint operations by the police's Serial and Electronic Crime Unit and the investigators from America’s Homeland Security.
The other three suspects were arrested last week in Worcester, Kraaifontein, and Mitchells Plain.
The Mossel Bay man is also the eighth suspect to be arrested since November as part of the national investigation.
He will remain in custody at the Mossel Bay police station and will appear in the town’s magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of the possession of child pornography.
The state has indicated that it will oppose any bail application.
