The state has charged another suspect in connection with the assassination of Fort Hare University’s staff members.
Tamsanqa Mgwetyana appeared in the Dimbaza Magistrates Court on Thursday, alongside Pelisa Nkonyeni, and Zimele Chiliza.
They face a string of charges that include two counts of murder, and four counts of attempted murder related to the killing of Fleet Manager Petrus Roets and the Vice Chancellor’s bodyguard, Mbonele Vesele.
Roets was gunned down in his vehicle near the Gonubie off-ramp on 19 May last year, while Vesele was assassinated on 6 January outside the Vice Chancellor's home in Alice in the Eastern Cape.
The court previously heard that Buhlungu had R5 million next to his name in a hit list containing the University's top management.
The three suspects join Lindokuhle Manjati, a Detective Constable from the Madeira police station in Mthatha, two former UFH employees Bongani Peter and Wanini Khuza, law student Sicelo Mbulawa and alleged hitmen from Kwa-Zulu Natal, Mthobisi Khanyile and Mthobisi Zondo
Meanwhile, the trio's bail proceedings were postponed on Thursday, for Mgwetyana to get a new lawyer, while Nkonyeni's attorney was said to be out of the province.
State Prosecutor Nceba Ntwelwa accepted the request for Chiliza's family to bring his chronic medication, as his advocate says he suffers from a life-threatening illness
The three accused are expected to apply for bail on 5 October.
