The Hawks have arrested one more suspect in the Buffalo City Metro Nelson Mandela memorial service multi-million rand scandal.
Spokesperson captain Paul Ramoloko says the suspect was arrested in Gauteng this morning.
He says 3 to 4 arrests are expected in East London later on Wednesday.
Meanwhile the ANC has asked Buffalo City mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, her deputy and council speaker to step aside following their arrest and court appearance on Monday.
The three and six other municipality officials are out on R10 000 bail each facing charges of fraud and tender corruption.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa made the announcement after a national working committee meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
An ordinary council meeting is expected to take place in the metro as planned on Wednesday.
Meanwhile the Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union also welcomed the arrests.
IMATU Eastern Cape Regional Manager, Cathi Botes says they have been concerned with reports of financial maladministration within the Buffalo City Municipality for a number of years.
She says the union fully endorse the ANC's position that corruption is a cancer that has no place in the ANC or the South African society.
Botes believes that all those government officials found to be guilty of fraudulent and corrupt activities must be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
