Another six people killed in two separate head-on collisions in EC

Five people were killed in yet another head-on collission in the Eastern Cape this weekend.

A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Binqose says the latest accident happened shortly before midnight on the R56 between Nqanqarhu (Maclear) and Dyoki (Ugie).

He says a Toyota Avanza with three occupants on board collided with a Volkswagen Polo with two occupants.

All five were declared dead on the scene.

Binqose says the cause of the accident will be investigated by SAPS.

He says in the second accident the driver of a BMW was killed after colliding head-on with a truck on the N2 road near Kei Cuttings.

The truck driver and his two passengers escaped unharmed.

This brings to 11 the number of people killed in three separate head-on collisions this weekend.

On Friday, five people were killed in a head-on collision near Jansenville on the R75.

According to a police report, an Isuzu bakkie, loaded with stock was travelling towards Jansenville when it collided head-on with a Hyundai bakkie that was travelling towards Kariega.

The next of kin of the deceased is still being traced and their names can only be released once a formal identification is done.
