Continental Tyre South Africa has announced that it is now producing its first 19-inch tyre at its Port Elizabeth manufacturing plant, making this the first-ever 19-inch tyre produced on South African soil.
Continental Tyre SA MD Shaun Uys says previously the plant in PE had the capacity to manufacture up to 18-inch tyre sizes and that the launch of the 19-inch General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyre represents a significant achievement for the domestic operations.
Uys says local production of the 19-inch tyre opens the door for the PE Plant's further expansion as previously these tyres had to be imported from other Conti plants around the world.
The new 19-inch tyre was developed to meet the growing needs of the sport-utility, light commercial and off-road vehicle market.
