Authorities worked on Tuesday night to retrieve the body of a person trapped in a vehicle at the bottom of Voëlklip in Herold’s Bay near George.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said a member of the George Community Policing Forum came across the vehicle at the bottom of the cliff late in the afternoon.
This reportedly followed a search for a missing woman, 57-year-old Jo-Anne Lourens, from Delville Park, who was reported missing on Thursday.
However, police have not formally identified the deceased.
Pojie said teams worked in the dark to retrieve the body and an assessment would be done on Wednesday on whether or not to remove the vehicle.
He did, however, confirm that the vehicle matched the description of the missing woman.
