Another fatal gang shooting in PE's northern areas

A 28-year-old man was killed in a suspected gang-related shooting in Helenvale, Port Elizabeth, on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Monique Kiviets.

Police Warrant Officer Alvin Labans says the incident happened in Shamoi street and that Kiviets appears to have tried to intervene in a fight between 3-other men, in which a 24 year-old was stabbed in the neck.

Labans says Kiviets was shot 6 times by two of the men and died on the scene.

Labans also confirmed that the 28 year-old driver of a bakkie involved in a fatal accident on Sunday night has been arrested for drunken driving.

A woman died on the scene and four others sustained serious injuries when the bakkie allegedly jumped a red traffic light on the corner of Cadle Street and Commercial Road in Sidwell and struck a taxi.

Two of the injured are reported to have died later at Livingstone Hospital.
