A manhunt is underway in the Eastern Cape for the killers of an off-duty policeman.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said that the body of a 36-year-old Constable Bathembu Mabhududu was found at Tombo Locality at Port St Johns early on Tuesday morning.
He says the policeman had left his home on Monday at around 10 pm to meet his wife at her rented place when he was shot dead by unknown assailants.
Kinana said he sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
“The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage and police will not speculate. A case of murder has been opened for investigation,” he said.
Constable Mabhududu’s murder comes after a Port Elizabeth policeman, Sergeant De Porres Frieslaar, was shot and killed in his car in Bethelsdorp over the weekend.
Frieslaar, who was stationed at Kabega Park SAPS, was off-duty at the time.
