Gqeberha police are investigating a case of a double murder of a man and a woman that occurred at the weekend in Kwazakhele.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the incident happened on Sunday evening in Ngwekazi Street.

“On arrival police found the driver, Mzamo Ngumbela, 31, in a Ford Ranger vehicle.”

Naidu says he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while three passengers in the vehicle managed to flee.

She says an injured female, Khanya Mali, was found in a nearby house with gunshot wounds to the neck and was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Monday morning.

Naidu says police are investigating two cases of murder and two of attempted murder.

She said the motive for the shootings is unknown.

This double murder comes as the Kwazakhele community was on high alert as double murders have plagued the area.

Four people had been killed and three others injured at a birthday party two weeks ago, while eight others had been killed at another shooting in Maqanda Street in late January.

The Maqanda Street incident prompted a visit by the Police Minister who vowed that police would work around the clock to ensure that the gunmen were caught.
