Gqeberha police have cracked another hit murder involving the killing of victims so that criminals can fraudulently claim insurance money.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said thorough investigations by the Hawks led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of 35-year-old Lonwabo Mbixane.
Mbixane was shot and killed outside a house in New Brighton in April.
Naidu said as the investigation into his murder unfolded, police established that the motive for the murder was for an insurance claim that had been taken out on the life of the deceased.
Azola Bhuqa, 41, and Siphosethu Kaya, 22, were arrested on Saturday, and appeared in the New Magistrates Court on Monday, on a charge of murder.
According to police, Bhuqa is alleged to be the mastermind.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, welcomed the arrests.
He said "hit murders" is a complex and challenging task and that investigations demand exceptional investigative skills.
"This is indeed a breakthrough for the SAPS as murders committed for fraudulent insurance claims are unethical and criminal.
"We are working closely with insurance companies in investigating suspicious claims," Ncata added.
Investigators are busy probing possible links to other "hit" murders by the suspects in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.
The court case was remanded to 31 July.
