Another arrest for robbery at Kareedouw police station

A 45-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the robbery at the Kareedouw police station in August as well as two other robbery cases in Makhanda.

Captain Andre Beetge says he was arrested Thursday evening when police followed up on information.

He was found in a vehicle with a 9mm Vector pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The fire arm's serial number had been filed off.

Beetge says the suspect will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court on Monday and will then be transferred to Kareedouw and Makhanda next week to be processed on the cases there.

Last month, 30-year-old police constable Yandiswa Siyasanga Feni appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate's court for her alleged involvement in the robbery at the Kareedouw police station in which several firearms were stolen.

Constable Feni, who was not injured in the robbery, alleged at the time that she was threatened and disarmed before being handcuffed.

Four men stole two R5 rifles, four handguns, a police radio and various rounds of ammunition during the incident.
