The assault case against two ANC councillors, Andile Lungisa and Gamalihleli Maqula, was postponed in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court on Tuesday.
The charges against them stem from a violent brawl that broke out in a Council meeting last November.
Lungisa is accused of hitting DA councillor Rano Kayser over the head with a glass jug‚ while Maqula is accused of stabbing DA chief whip Werner Senekal in the back with a sharp object.
Following the incident the two handed themselves over to police and are currently out on bail of R1000 each.
Maqula is currently serving a sentence of correctional supervision for kidnapping and the assault of a teenage boy.
Lungisa was not in court but provided the state with a doctor's note.
The case was remanded to April 26 for the accused to consult with their attorneys and for further investigation.
