ANC reclaims mayoral position in Nelson Mandela Bay

The ANC has reclaimed the mayoral position in Nelson Mandela Bay after Eugene' Johnson beat DA mayoral candidate Nqaba Bhanga by a solitary vote.

Johnson was announced as the party's mayoral pick this weekend.

Former ANC Speaker, Buyelwa Mafaya, was elected Deputy Mayor.

Meanwhile, Gary van Niekerk of the Northern Alliance, which won three seats, was elected Council Speaker, beating off Rayno Kayser of the DA.

The new kids on the block won three seats during the local government election.

The Mayoral Committee members:

1. Economic Development, Agriculture and Tourism - Khusta Jack ( Abantu Integrity Movement- AIM)
2. Infrastu and engeenring - John Mervyn Mitchell (Northen Alliance-NA)
3. Public health - Tshonono Buyelye (African Independent Congress-AIC )
4. Electricity and Engineering - Luxolo Namette (United Democratic Movement-UDM)
5. Safety and Security - Lawrence Troon (GOOD)
6. Budget and Treasury - Tukela Zumani (Defenders of the People- DOP)
7. Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture - Mcebisi Bass Kamana (Pan Africanist Congress of Azania)
8. Human Settlement - Itumelang Ranyele (African National Congress- ANC)
9. Roads and Transport - Bongani Mani (African National Congress-ANC)
10. Corporate Services - Maki Feni (African National Congress _ANC)
