The ANC in the Eastern Cape says recent media reports about how government spent the money allocated for the memorial and funeral services for Nelson Mandela, appear to be an attack against its leaders - particularly provincial Chairperson Phumulo Masualle.
This weekend the Sunday Times reported that R250 000 of the Madiba funeral services money was deposited into Masualle’s personal bank account.
He reportedly rejected and later returned the money to the finance department without spending it.
In a Statement released today ANC provincial spokesperson Mlibo Qoboshiyane says they reject the constant insinuation by some newspapers that the ANC led government disregarded financial management and procurement laws when procuring services around the services. Qoboshiyane says the sources used by the newspapers are trying to discredit Masualle. He is set to be one of the 4 competitors for the provincial premier position.
