The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape said it is shocked and outraged by the assassination of local government councillor Mpho Mahleza, who was gunned down in Bedford on Thursday night.
Provincial spokesperson, Gift Nqondi, the Ward 23 councllor, was shot outside his house by unknown assailants.
He said it was a sad day for the ANC, describing Mahleza as a gentle giant who dedicated his life to serving the Bedford community.
Ngqondi said the ANC called on the police to do everything in their power to hunt down these heartless and trigger-happy criminals.
“Killing a public representative is tantamount subversion of democracy because councillors are servants of the people,” he said.
