Jailed ANC Nelson Mandela Bay Councillor, Andile Lungisa has been granted bail of R10 000 in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court.
This is pending his petition for leave to appeal his 2-year jail sentence and conviction at the Grahamstown High Court.
Lungisa had been in custody since he was sentenced to an effective two years behind bars earlier this month, for assaulting DA councillor, Rano Kayser, with a glass jug during a heated council meeting in 2016.
At the time, Magistrate Mornay Cannon dismissed Lungisa's application for leave to appeal his conviction and sentence.
Lungisa has since appointed well-known Port Elizabeth lawyer, Alwyn Griebenouw, to petition the high court.
