The ANC is urging government to use Thursday's State of the Nation Address to focus on 12 key areas that need to be addressed in order to achieve radical economic transformation.
ANC National spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, said this includes the return of land to the people using constitutional means and mercilessly dealing with corruption.
Kodwa said the call for radical economic transformation was identified as an urgent directive at the National Executive Council Lekgotla held at the end of last month.
He said the ruling party was expecting President Jacob Zuma to announce practical steps aimed at achieving this goal.
" We have been talking about radical economic transformation in abstract. We need concretely to say we must change the system, we must change the management and we must change the ownership of the economy. It cannot remain in the hands of 70% of white males, the South African economy remains in private hands. We expect the president to announce practical steps in terms of radical economic transformation" he said.
President Zuma will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address on Thursday under the theme "The Year of Oliver Reginald Tambo: Unity in Action Together Moving South Africa Forward.”
