Communications Minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has apologised for an altercation with journalists at an ANC manifesto launch at Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
The launch was disrupted, just as ANC Treasurer-General Paul Mashatile was about to speak, by singing demonstrators allegedly frustrated by a lack of service delivery in their area.
Ndabeni-Abrahams, who's part of the ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Executive, is reported to have blocked journalists from covering the protesting crowd.
The ANC's Provincial Executive Committee says in a statement it is important to convey its sincere apology to the affected members of the media, as it remains the party's view in the Province that media freedom should always be protected.
It says therefor all leaders, members and supporters of the ANC must continue to be committed to this constitutional principle.
