The ANC and the SACP in the Eastern Cape have called on authorities to “move with speed” in bringing to book those behind the killing of the Speaker of the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality.
ANC Councillor Thozama Njobe had reportedly received death threats before she was shot in Fort Beaufort last week.
She died en route to hospital.
In a joint statement following a recent bilateral, the ANC and SACP in the Eastern Cape said that “the meeting condemned with the strongest “terms, Njobe’s murder.
“We trust that the cold-blooded murder of Comrade Njobe is not linked to the factional battles and politics in the ANC, for that will be a detour on what our province has always been.”
The alliance partners said the Eastern Cape has always been characterised by the culture of tolerance.
“We are calling upon the law enforcement authorities to move with speed in bringing the perpetrators of this atrocious act into book,” the joint statement said.
