A metro ambulance on its way to a call out in Vastrap in Port Elizabeth was petrol-bombed on Wednesday night.
Spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says the ambulance was travelling on Standford Road shortly before 8 pm when a petrol bomb was thrown through the window.
He says the driver and his crew jumped out and ran away as their vehicle burned out.
Kinana says another ambulance rushed to the scene to assist their colleagues when they were pelted with stones.
He says in another incident in the same area a courier Isuzu bakkie was hijacked by protesters and set alight.
It is alleged that the driver was dropping of staff at home when it was pelted with stones in William Slammert driver.
The occupants abandoned the vehicle and ran away.
Protesters drove away with the vehicle before setting it alight.
On Thursday protesters gathered along Standford/Uitenhage road again and police urged motorists to avoid the Vastrap and Booysens Park areas by using alternative routes.
