A private ambulance driver in Gauteng was arrested on Sunday for reckless and negligent driving.
Spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Simon Zwane says the driver also did not have a professional driving permint and failed to obey the instructions of traffic officers who tried to stop his ambulance.
He says the owner of the ambulance was also arrested for trying to intervene in the driver's arrest.
It is alleged that the driver attracted the attention of officers who observed the ambulance cutting in front of traffic dangerously.
The driver allegedly failed to stop when he was instructed to do so and officers were called in to assist in an arrest.
The owner, who was also arrested, will be charged with fraud because the operator's permit displayed on the vehicle was invalid.
Both the driver and the ambulance owner were detained at the Olifantsfontein police station and were expected to appear in court on Monday.
