Gamtoos Water
The recent showers in parts of the Eastern Cape Province have boosted dam levels across the province.
The latest weekly report issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Hydrology showed a marginal increase in the provincial storage capacity from 80.0% last week to 81.1% this week.
The slight increase has had a significant positive impact, especially on the Algoa Water Supply System dams serving Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM).
The system’s overall level has risen from 77.3% last week to 81.0% this week.
Kouga Dam: 100%
Loerie Dam: 100%
Churchill Dam: 100.6%
Impofu Dam: 48.3%
Algoa FM News contacted NMB spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya to ask when the punitive measures for water will be scrapped. The metro noted our inquiry and has yet to respond.
Buffalo City Metro (BCMM)
The Amathole Water Supply System, which services Buffalo City and the Amathole District Municipality (ADM), has seen positive developments. Its current capacity is 100.4%.
Bridle Drift Dam: 100.8%
Nahoon Dam: 99.9%
Rooikrans Dam: 99.5%
Laing Dam: 101.3%
Umtata Dam: 98.6%
The Mabele dam, however, decreased slightly from 80.1% to 78.4%
