Five business robbery suspects are due to appear in the Gelvandale magistrates’ court on Monday for allegedly robbing a tavern in Arcadia in Bethelsdorp last week.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the complainant was robbed inside his tavern in Harrington Street last Tuesday afternoon by five unknown men wielding three firearms.
A large amount of cash, gold rings belonging to the complainant, liquor and three cell phones were taken.
As the suspects fled, a shot was fired.
Colonel Naidu says that shortly after 3 pm last Friday, the suspects returned in a white BMW and once again attempted to rob the tavern.
However, access was denied as the establishment was closed and the tavern owner immediately contacted the police.
The five suspects were spotted in the white BMW a short while later in Hickory Street.
On searching the vehicle and the suspects, a large amount of cash was found on a 22-year-old man as well as one of the cell phones stolen in Tuesday’s robbery.
All five suspects between the ages of 21 and 30 were arrested and the BMW was also confiscated for further investigation.
