Police in Makhanda have launched a manhunt for seven prisoners who escaped from the Waainek Correctional facility on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Singabakho Nxumalo says the men escaped in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He says the suspects are considered dangerous and should not be confronted.
The seven men are all charged with Rhino poaching and six of them are Zimbabwean Nationals.
DCS has identified the escapees as Nhamo Muyambo, Francis Chitho, Trymore Chauke, Lubuyo September, Abraham Moyane, Simba Masinge, Bennet Kwarrile.
The circumstances around the escape are not yet known.
According to police, the suspects escaped through a window at about 4 am.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has implemented a 72-hour activation plan following the incident.
