A 34-year-old man is in police custody following his arrest for having suspected stolen groceries worth R10 000 in his possession.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the man was arrested on Tuesday evening at a house in Soweto-on-Sea.
She says members from SAPS in Kwazekhele received valuable information about a car that was hijacked in Humewood earlier in the day.
The vehicle was spotted at the house in Soweto-on-Sea where a person was seen offloading goods.
Captain Swart says when police arrived the vehicle was already gone but police noticed several containers of bottled water lying on the ground that led them to the groceries.
She says the man in the house was unable to give a reasonable explanation for where he got the goods and was subsequently arrested.
The hijacked vehicle worth R90 000 was found abandoned in Joe Slovo.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrates Court soon on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property as well as an ammunition charge as he had three bullets in his possession.
The investigation into the hijacking continues.
