A 17-year-old Port Elizabeth youth was expected to appear in court on Tuesday, in connection with an incident involving a fire-arm at the Gelvandale High School on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Labans, said the youth faced a charge of pointing a fire-arm.
The suspect was apprehended by teachers on the school property after six to seven suspected gang members entered the school during morning assembly.
He allegedly pointed a fire-arm at a teacher before being overpowered. His accomplices also tried to storm an office to free him but were repelled by teachers.
Following the incident, Gelvandale High principal Deon O'Brien, decided to close the school for two days.
Teachers and learners held a protest on Tuesday morning, to demand strict security measures at schools from the Bhisho Education Department.
