A man who was arrested for drunken driving in Port Elizabeth is now also facing a rape charge.
Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police investigated a case when a stationary vehicle was spotted in Walmer at about half-past six on Thursday morning.
The Metro's Safety and Security chief, Advocate Keith Meyer, says the vehicle's engine was still running and a man, ostensibly under the influence of alcohol, was slumped in the driver's seat.
He was taken to the Humewood police cells following a breathalyser test and during the investigation, Metro Cops noticed blood stains on the vehicle, as well as bloodied clothes and other items inside.
SAPS were called in and during the course of the afternoon, a woman came forward claiming that she was raped and assaulted by the suspect.
