A charge of racketeering could be added to the case involving two Gqeberha men authorities believe are abalone poaching kingpins.
This was said during Friday's brief court appearance of 52-year-old Raymond Taylor and 47-year-old Roland Hudson in the city's Magistrate's Court.
The court heard from both the state and defence that a racketeering certificate was still pending.
Taylor and Roland were arrested in an operation dubbed Project Perfect Storm, conducted by SA National Parks (SANParks), and involved an undercover agent.
SANParks said they had allegedly offered a bribe to a field ranger from Addo Elephant National Park to provide information on when it would be safe to dive in Algoa Bay's Bird Island.
Taylor and Roland are out on bail of R150 000 and R20 000 respectively.
They are expected back in court on the 26th of August.
