"All classes in EC will have a teacher" Motshekga

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the target for filling all vacant teaching posts at schools in the Eastern Cape has been set for the 31st of December this year.

She's told the National Assembly this will ensure there is a teacher in every class at the beginning of the 2015 academic year.

Replying to a written question from Annette Lovemore of the DA, the Minister said that at the end of June this year there were 3 202 vacancies in the gazetted post establishment in schools in the Eastern Cape.

She said the Eastern Cape Department of Education had compiled a list of 1 174 critical vacant level one posts which had been earmarked for immediate filling.

Motshekga added that the Eastern Cape Education Department would start delivering 35 399 tables and chairs to schools this month with 115 schools benefiting.
