In December 1995 the friendly city of Port Elizabeth made international headlines when a woman by the name of Alison Botha was abducted, raped, stabbed multiple times and left for dead.
The story of Alison gripped the nation and her courage inspired all.
More then two decades later she returned to Port Elizabeth for the premier of her film simply entitled Alison.Hundreds of people attended the premier on Thursday night. The film is a documentary built around an intimate interview that she gave to filmmaker Uga Carlini.
Algoa FM news asked Alison what her thoughts were on the current protests in the country around rape and the so called rape culture in South Africa
"I think it is brilliant that the spotlight is on rape and that we are speaking about it, but the results are not being seen. Unfortunately I think those have to come from higher above. We can do our bit and I think we should do our bit, but I think our demands should be stronger I guess"
Her attackers Theuns Kruger and Frans du Toit are serving a life sentence behind bars.
