A 28-year-old suspected car hijacking suspect has been arrested by an alert Uitenhage traffic officer.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, says the 40-year-old traffic officer became suspicious when spotted a speeding VW Polo on Saturday night.
He chased after the car which had been hijacked at at tavern and when he cornered the vehicle two men jumped out.
Nkohli says the traffic officer however was able to grab hold of the driver and place him under arrest.
The suspect is due to appear in court this week.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man has also been arrested on a charge of hijacking after he was arrested in Lorraine, Port Elizabeth on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu, says the VW Polo was allegedly hijacked at gunpoint by two men in Kwadwesi.
He says the vehicle was spotted in Circular Drive by members of the Provincial Hijacking Task Team.
A chase ensued but came to a stop when the stolen vehicle hit a lamp pole.
Gwavu says the suspect was arrested for being in possession of hijacked vehicle and will appear in New Brighton court soon.
