Airport emergency services put on alert for arrival of passenger flight in PE

A Boeing aircraft operated by FlySafair and carrying over 100 passengers experienced a technical issue last night, forcing it to make an emergency landing at Port Elizabeth airport and affecting its flight schedule.

Acsa's Colin Naidoo told News24 that the incident took place at PE airport at 8-30pm onThursday.

The airline said it was working to ensure there were no further disruptions to its schedule.  All emergency services were on standby at the airport and the plane landed safely.

Fly Safair's Kirby Gordon said that on descent their pilot was informed of a small electrical issue on the aircraft.

He says the pilot issued what is known as a Pan - Pan call which he says is different to a mayday call.

"The Pan-Pan call illustrates there is an urgency on board but that the aircraft and passengers on board are actually in no danger whatsoever. For example a Pan-Pan call will be issued if a patient needs medical attention. It is a standard procedure. The flight landed safely in Port Elizabeth" he said.

Unfortunately this did have a knock-on effect on the return leg forcing the cancellation of flight FA 2305. All passengers booked on that flight have been re-accommodated on alternative fights and some have opted for full refunds.
