Agreement ends EC teachers strike

Schooling in the Eastern Cape should start returning to normal next week.

This, after an agreement was brokered on Tuesday night between the Premier Noxolo Kiviet, Members of her Executive Council and Cosatu leadership lead by secretary-general, Zwelinzima Vavi.

He said in East London today that the Bhisho Education Department had agreed to reinstate all temporary teachers.

Education MEC, Mandla Makhuphula, says a circular to this effect will be sent out on Friday reinstating all temporary teachers within 48 hours.

SADTU provincial secretary Mncekeleli Ndongeni has welcomed the agreement, adding that they will communicate this to their members.

Meanwhile, the future of education superintendent general, Modidima Mannya, whom the union wants fired, is still being discused behind closed doors.
