Afriforum lays charge of hate speech against Oudtshoorn official

A charge  of hate speech against an official of the Oudtshoorn municipality, Vuyisa Forplay, is being investigated by police.

AfriForum's provincial coordinator for the Western Province‚ Thomas van Dalen, confirmed that they recently laid a charge of hate speech against Forplay.

This follows after Forplay posted a message on his Facebook page in November 2015, saying that he would cut out the tongues of white people using a machete.

He also wrote that he would enjoy hearing them beg for forgiveness.

Although the municipality investigated the matter, Forplay only received a written warning and had to go for diversity training.

Van Dalen says Forplays' punishment is ridiculous and the organisation is disgruntled with the outcome of the municipality's investigation.

Van Dalen says a charge of hate speech was laid and is now being investigated by Oudtshoorn police.

The municipality said in a statement that Forplay showed remorse and also apologised on Facebook.
