The Amathole District Municipality in the Eastern Cape says service delivery has been hampered by unlawful industrial gatherings at its Chislehurst Head Office from 28 July and which have spread to its satellite offices.
It says in a statement this is not only affecting communities, but also the municipality’s finances, as it will be expected to fix especially water infrastructure, which has been tampered with.
ADM has apologised to communities affected by deliberate infrastructure sabotage and said that there were ongoing efforts to ensure that services are restored.
It said it would take an uncompromising stand against any form of infrastructure tampering.
Meanwhile, the Amathole District Municipality issued a public notice on Saturday, informing residents of Raymond Mhlaba and Mbhase of water outages due to mechanical faults at the Fort Beaufort and Mncwasa Water Treatment Works.
It says engineers are attending to the problem, and residents are urged to use water sparingly.
