Addo anti-poaching initiatives get another boost

Anti-poaching initiatives in the Addo Elephant National Park received another shot in the arm with the sponsorship of a Polaris all-terrain vehicle from the MyPlanet Rhino Fund.

The sponsorship from the Fund, which is administered by the Endangered Wildlife Trust, is also boosted by the donation of a specially designed rhino trailer, one of only four purpose-built trailers for the anti-poaching initiative.

SA National Parks regional communications manager, Fayroush Ludick, says the vehicle and trailer will be deployed to the Park's northern-most, Darlington section.

Ludick says they will be used by rangers in their ongoing plight to protect the country's natural heritage.

"It will go a long way in boosting our capacity to look after the countries natural assets as Sanparks has been mandated to do so . In the past our rangers were confined to a static ticket system but now they are more mobile. Rangers can now be deployed into high risk areas more quickly and efficiently" she said
