Five people have been killed and nine others seriously injured in a horror smash on the N2 outside Duytwa on the road to Mthatha.
Provincial Traffic Deputy Director Charles Bramwell says a bakkie which rolled a number of time, coming to rest in open veld next to the N2, appears to have been the only vehicle involved in the accident.
Police captain Jackson Manatha says four women and a man died instantly in the crash which happened near Doti Village, Duytwa, at around 3pm on Friday.
Nine other passengers were seriously injured and rushed to Butterworth hospital for emergency treatment.
No names have been released at this stage and police have opened a culpable homicide docket.
