Police counting mandrax tablets confiscated in truck

Two foreign nationals are in police custody following their arrest on the N10 just outside Middelburg.
Spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says and accident led to the arrests which took place at a roadblock which also served as a health checkpoint.
He says a truck transporting perfume collided with a stationary vehicle at the checkpoint at 11 pm on Wednesday.
Kinana says a routine inspection was conducted on the cargo of the truck and unknown parcels, which did not form part of the original cargo, were identified.
The parcels turned out to be thousands of mandrax tablets to the value of R4 million.
The two foreign nationals, aged 34 and 47 were arrested on the spot.
A case of Dealing in Mandrax and dagga is being investigated by Middelburg Police Station. The suspects are due to appear in the local Magistrates court soon.
