A 41-year-old farmer from Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape will appear in court on Wednesday on charges of human trafficking, rape, assault, and child labour.
The farmer was arrested on Monday after members of a task team from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Graaff Reinet made a breakthrough in the investigations.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said the breakthrough emanated from a case of rape that was opened in February.
According to Nkohli, the suspect was linked to at least five cases of human trafficking and rape between 2020 and 2023 in the Eastern Cape and in other provinces.
