Abalone bust in small town of Jansenville

Bags of abalone confiscated in Janseville

SAPS

Two men will spend the weekend behind bars following their arrest in Jansenville on Friday for the possession of abalone with an estimated street value of R430 000.

Police Spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson says excellent police work resulted in the arrest of the suspects aged 34 and 39.

He says police members were on patrol when they noticed two suspicious Nissan Almera's parked in Bridge Street at 5.30 am.

Captain Rawlinson says when police searched the vehicles they discovered 39 black bags filled with abalone as well as an unlicensed gun and 21 live rounds of ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Jansenville Magistrates Court on Monday.
