Eastern Cape police have seized abalone with a street value of R 2.1m during a routine police checkpoint outside Graaff-Reinet.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, says police found 985 kilograms of dried abalone when they stopped and searched the vehicle on Wednesday night.
She says the suspect was immediately arrested and will appear in court on Monday.
"Members of the Graaff-Reinet SAPS searched a vehicle and discovered 985 kg's of dried abalone.
It seems like it was on it's way to Johannesburg.
The police arrested one adult male and he will appear in court on Monday".
